PTA Board Meeting

September 18, 2008

Call to order at 7:10pm

August minutes were presented and approved

 

Guest Speaker – Mary Zarr, Asst. Superintendent for Curriculum, District 15

~ACCESS for ELLs is a standards-based, criterion referenced English language proficiency test designed to measure English learners’ social & academic proficiency in English

          ~Given to Grades 1-8 (Reading, Listening, Writing): Jan. 12 – 30, 2009

          ~Kindergarten (Speaking, Reading, Listening, & Writing): Jan. 12 – Feb. 20, 2009

~CogAt (Cognitive Abilities Test) measures verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative aptitude

          ~Given to Grades 2, 4, and 6 (full battery): Feb 9-13, 2009

          ~Bilingual grades 2, 4 & 6 (quantitative & nonverbal tests only): Feb. 9 – 13, 2009

          ~Used for gifted placement & 7th grade math placement

~Logramos-Spanish academic test given in Math, Language, & Reading

          ~ Spanish-dominant students in 2nd grade

          ~Given Dec. 1 – 12, 2008

~Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is a computer-based test which measures individual student achievement in three academic areas: Reading, Language, & Math

          ~Given in:  Fall, Grades 2 – 8:  Sept. 2 – 26, 2008

Winter, Grades 2 in Reading, other grade levels/subjects site based as needed:  Dec. 1 - 19, 2008

Spring, Grades 2 – 8: April 8 – May6, 2009

~Illinois Standard Achievement Test (ISAT) measures individual student achievement relative to the Illinois Learning Standards.

          ~Given to Grades 3, 5, 6 and 8 – Writing

          ~Given to Grades 4 & 7 – Science

          ~Given to Grades 3-8 – Reading & Math

          ~All ISAT exams will be administered from March 2 – 13, 2009

Balance on Hand:  $3,160.34

 

Principal’s Report – Christie Samojedny

~Good 1st week of school

~Monday was last day for MAP testing – Receive scores in Oct.

~6th graders will have lock-in this year

~3 disaster drills this week – all went well

 

~Changed Bus Dismissal Procedure

          ~Kids move straight to bus after school

          ~Buses out within 5 minutes

~Picture Day

          ~Thank you to Debbie & Donna for their hard work

          ~Ran very smoothly

~PHAN mail will be put out more frequently this school year

          ~Christie would like feedback regarding PHAN mail

~New removable chains installed in front of Lincoln

          ~protect children from cars pulling in during school hours

          ~can still use space for parking for school events

 

Assistant Principal’s Report – Mary Beth Knoppel

~PBIS rally picture was printed in PHAN mail

~2nd PBIS celebration is scheduled for Sept. 26th: Outside games, i.e. tug-of-war, soccer, jump ropes, balls & outside playing equipment.

 

President’s Report – Ann Lawrence & Megan Juskiewicz

~Approval of Audit –Theresa Stepp, Kris Ahlgrim & Meg Juskiewicz met on July 20, 2008 & found books to be accurate

~Anna Kieliszewski made a motion to approve the books

~Jen Soloway 2nd the motion

~Majority voted to approve the books

 

 

~Adoption of Budget -

~Theresa Stepp, Cara Singer, Dana Joseph & Ann Lawrence worked on budget

          ~Proposed 2008-2009 Budget posted on PTA bulletin board for 30 days

          ~Cara Singer so moved to adopt the 2008-2009 PTA budget

          ~Majority voted to approve the adoption of the 2008-2009 PTA budget

~Nominating Committee-

          ~Will meet in February 2009

          ~2 General members: Debra Hudson, Ami Rajpurkar & Donna Berg (alternate)

~Anne Marie Johlie made a motion to approve the appointments to the nominating committee

          ~Jen Soloway 2nd the motion

          ~Majority voted to approve the appointments to the nominating committee

 

~Kindergarten & New Family Orientation – August 19, 2008

          ~Great turn out more than 100 people

          ~Tour of Lincoln were given

          ~Kept phone calls & question’s down in office

          ~Next year will need to have a translator present

~Perhaps make up a “Frequently Asked Questions” booklet to distribute

 

~Gabe & Izzy Assembly – October 10, 2008

          ~4th thru 6th graders will attend

          ~Pleasant Hill @ 7pm – Oct. 8th   Sponsored by NWSC – open to all families

          ~ordered free bookmarks will be distributed to all students

~Children will watch DVD prior to seeing Gabe & Izzy

~Presentation will occur during Anti-bullying week

~Megan Juskiewicz will present gift basket

 

~NWSC Update

          ~Megan Juskiewicz attended the meeting

          ~Dr. Lukich spoke

                   ~Board of Ed. Meeting moved to Oct. 15th

          ~Internet Safety Program - Sept. 29th @ 7pm

          ~Looking for 4 delegates to represent Lincoln

          ~Palatine Food Pantry would like every school to participate in donating food

~Palatine Police will be presenting  “How media violence can affect our children” Saturday, Oct. 18th

 

~District 37 Update-Oct. 20 Dinner at Bristol Court

          ~Let Ann know if you are interested in going

          ~Lincoln’s table is a lot of fun!

 

~New PTA room

          ~Working out very nicely

 

~Pumpkin Run

          ~PTA pays for pumpkins

 

~Thank you to our volunteers who participated in the following events.  It is only because of you that these events were as successful!

                   ~16 entries for art cover

                   ~1st place entry on cover, 2nd place on back

                   ~other entries will be displayed on inside cover

          ~Family Activities – Chris Daly

                   ~Pizza Night was very successful

                   ~7:00 hour was dedicated to Dads – they did the serving

                   ~Ran out of lemonade used water

          ~Health, Wellness & Safety – Izabella Fishmann

                   ~Sept. 23rd & 24th Hearing & Vision Screening

                   ~District will mandate which grades will be tested

          ~Jr.  Great Books – Jane Buckstaff

                   ~Kick-off in January

          ~Reading Program – Stephanie Kiesler

                   ~Kick-off Oct. 1st ends March 31st

                   ~Each teacher sets own criteria

          ~Kindergym – Margie Hartley

                   ~In need of volunteers for afternoon classes

                   ~Meeting with parents next Thursday in gym

          ~Market Day – Dana Joseph

                   ~1st pick up went smoothly

                   ~no late comers

                   ~354 memberships

                   ~150 less than last year

                   ~Will continue putting business cards in back of directory

          ~Newsletter – Diane Winfrey

                   ~Megan & Ann will be putting 1st issue in Oct.

                   ~Very excited to have Diane taking over as Chair

          ~Rec Night – Rob & Debbie Paneral

                   ~1st night Sept. 25th  @ 7-8 Moms & Daughters K-2nd

                   ~Putting all dates on one flyer & on website

                   ~Looking for any volunteers to be substitutes

          ~Room Reps – Kris Ahlgrim & Sara Kassanders

                   ~Room Tea was success & good turn out

                   ~Mrs. Russman & bilingual teachers are looking for room parents

                   ~Thanks to Mrs. Samo & Mrs. Schneiss for providing babysitters

          ~Spirit Wear – Sam Senner

                   ~All orders are due:  Friday, Sept. 19th – Will accept few late orders

                   ~Pre-sales went well – parents were happy to look at merchandise

          ~Ways & Means – Cara Singer & Dana Joseph

                   ~140 sold Entertainment Books sold

~First grader won $15 gift card, Second grader won DQ gift card & on Sept. 26th will pull for winner of the DVD player

~Sally Foster due on Oct. 3rd

          ~Using Prize points not money from budget

          ~Oct. 10th drawing for the I-pod

          ~Yearbook- Donna Schneberger & Deb Azpuru

                   ~Art for yearbook is due before Christmas
